Two main current issues in the world championship scene concern the sudden decision that the start and first special stage at Rally Mexico will be held in Mexico City, some 400km away from the rally’s base upcountry at Leon.

Despite the disruption this causes, reactions among the teams to the Mexico City stage were essentially very positive.

Citroen said: “So long as the organisation of the rally is not impacted and it is all well organised and the extra costs are contained, this should be interesting for the media.”

Hyundai: “It is good to bring the rally to the cities where people are! It’s a challenge logistically, but the organisers seem to have a good plan and they will take care of both cars and team personnel transportation to and from Mexico City.”

M-Sport: “It looks fantastic. It will be interesting to see how the logistics work, but the organisers seem to have everything covered and it will provide a great opportunity to reach more people.”

Toyota: “Logistically it's interesting and we enjoy challenges. The exposure is worth the extra effort.  We see the Mexico City start as a really good opportunity to promote the sport for new audience.  We are happy to be flexible and make this all happen.”
