Rising star, Kalle Rovanpera is set to compete ‘down under’ at Rally Australia in November. The 16-year old's deal with M-Sport will see him compete at the final two rounds of the World Rally Championship in a Ford Fiesta R5. Rally GB will see the first event of this deal, and will likely pit him against some of the best WRC2 drivers in the championship. Rovanpera turns 17 on October 1, and will complete his Finnish driving test a day later, making him eligible to drive on public roads. The son of former factory driver, Harri Rovanpera, Kalle has already won two Latvian Rally Championships, and finished second at the Bettega Memorial Rallysprint in a World Rally Car. Malcolm Wilson said that he was really excited to see Kalle in an M-Sport car. "Having him with us for GB and Australia is fantastic news - he's going to be a real talking point on the last two rounds of this year's world championship." Wilson and Rovanpera have not yet agreed to a deal for 2018, but the Hyundai young driver program looks to be the preferred option. If Rovanpera was to win the Hyundai young driver program, he would compete in a full factory WRC2 program with the Hyundai i20 R5 in 2018. This added entry is set to make the final round of the world title even more exciting.
