Gavin Smith has decided to try first-hand the sport that Bosch has backed as naming rights sponsor for the past two years, strapping himself into a Rallyschool.com.au Subaru WRX alongside Ryan Smart in the Zero safety car.
The unique experience will give Gavin Smith an insight into the sport of gravel rallying and just how skilled the exponents really are.
"I am looking forward to the experience; this is something I have wanted to do for a long time" said Gavin Smith.
"It isn't every day you get to sample an extreme sport like this. I am sure plenty of CEOs play in golf tournaments that their companies might sponsor but to actually be a part of the rally like this is something entirely different. It's going to be fantastic," he said.
"Rallying is one of the few motorsport codes that I take an active interest in. This interest got me into navigating in tarmac rallies, which I have done for more than 12 years now, but this will be my first experience of gravel rallying. It'll be great to be alongside a driver of the calibre of Ryan Smart in the safety car," he added.
"Bosch is a global leader in the development and supply of automotive products, including ABS and brakes. When you combine Bosch with the range from another of our brands in PBR, you can see we have one of the most comprehensive brake ranges available," said Mr Smith.
"Many of our customers are passionate about many forms of motorsport and so our sponsorship of the ARC provides a perfect opportunity to highlight our growing range and to talk about the benefits of using Bosch products," he added.
CEO of the Bosch ARC, Scott Pedder, said it was extremely encouraging to have the President of the sport's major sponsor willing to climb into a rally car and be a part of the sport.
"I know Gavin will have the ride of his life with Ryan Smart and this will enable him to understand the Bosch ARC and the passion that is a part of our sport even more," said Scott Pedder.
Bosch is a leading global supplier of technology and services in the areas of automotive and industrial technology, consumer goods, and building technology and is the world's largest automotive parts supplier.
Bosch has global sales exceeding $51billion euros each year with more than 300,000 employees worldwide including Australia and New Zealand with its regional head office at Clayton in Victoria.
More than 2 million Australians will see the Bosch ARC on TV in 2012 and the series will generate more than 40 hours of national television across the Ten/One HD network - a media equivalency value exceeding $12 million. The Bosch Australian Rally Championship also receives support from multi-national fuel and lubricant giant BP as the primary fuel supplier and for the third year Korean tyre giant Kumho as the exclusive tyre supplier for the championship. Other commercial partners include East Coast Bullbars, Honda, rallyschool.com.au, Polaris, CanAm, Snake Racing and CAMS.
