The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) has appointed Simon Webb to the position of General Manager of Motor Sport Operations.
Simon WebbWebb joins CAMS having previously served in the role between 2003–2004, and has over 15 years of experience in motor sport industries across the world.
“Having worked in the global motor sport industry for some years, I’m relishing the opportunity to return to Australia and CAMS,” Webb said.
“Motor sport in Australia is embarking on an exciting era with record levels of growth, awareness and participation. I’m excited to take on this role to ensure the continuing development of Australian motor sport at all levels.”
Michael Smith, outgoing General Manager of Motor Sport, has since been appointed to the newly created role of General Manager of Motor Sport Events.
Michael SmithSmith will oversee CAMS’ commercial operations, which include such entities as the CAMS National Racing Championships (Shannons Nationals), Australian Formula 4, Rallycorp (Australian Rally Championship) and the Australian Off Road Championship.
CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca welcomed the new appointments as a critical step in CAMS’ role of developing Australian motor sport’s long-term future.
“We welcome Simon’s global experience and expertise back into the CAMS fold. He will be a great addition to oversee our motor sport department, which will continue to support the variety of disciplines we oversee at all levels of the sport,” Arocca said.
Webb and Smith’s appointments comes as CAMS looks to consolidate its business model, whilst upholding its core role of governing and generating revenue to put back into the development of four-wheeled motor sport in Australia.
“Our commercial responsibilities are of equal importance, particularly as CAMS now manages several properties in-house. This strategy seeks to generate revenue to exclusively put back into further developing our sport, which is common practice across every major sporting body in Australia.”
Webb and Smith commenced their respective roles today, Wednesday 1 February 2017.
