Citroen Racing has announced their line up for the forthcoming Catalunya WRC Rally as Kris Meeke, Stephane Lefebvre and Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi.
The team has announced they have said farewell to Andreas Mikkelsen, for whom he drove three WRC events this year, but Craig Been will make the reconnaissance in Spain and will contest Rally GB and Rally Australia.
Citroen Racing principal Yves Matton said that Mikkelsen was “one of the options we considered when working on our driver lineup for 2018, but when it came to making a final decision, we decided not to pursue it”.
Matton congratulated Mikkelsen “on securing a new drive for next season. I really enjoyed working with him and it’s a good thing for the WRC that (he) is back in the championship full time”.
Mikkelsen’s final event with Citroen, therefore, was Germany where he finished second overall.
Ironically, Mikkelsen’s last drive with his previous team, Volkswagen, was when he won in Australia 2016. Even in Germany, Citroen Racing emphasized that Andreas was part of their team.
