A class field of 29 rally cars will face the starter’s flag tomorrow to contest the 2007 Rally of the Manning Valley. The rally has attracted the state’s top crews with valuable points on offer for the much sought after NSW Excel Championship and Northern NSW Rally Series.

The NSW Northern NSW Championship is a 5 round Series staged across the Mid North Coast of NSW, with crews heading to Taree for Round 1 of the series.

The rally action gets under way from 11am at Midcoast Ford in Taree with a rally show, with cars and their crews on display prior to being flagged away from the official start line at 2pm.

Rally crews will then head for the forests of Coopernook and Dingo Tops to contest 10 special stages over 133km. The first car will return to finish at the Taree Leagues & Sports Club at 11:45pm.

Those wishing to see rally cars in action can head out to the official spectator point at Coopernook Forest HQ where the cars can be seen in action fours times throughout the afternoon and evening, from 2:15pm through to 5:45pm. Instructions to the spectator point will be available from Midcoast Ford on Saturday morning.

Some of the State’s fastest drivers will contest the rally. Wingham’s Dave Darby and Shane Griffis in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 3 will be outright contenders on the day and will lead off as car 1 after winning the event last year. Wauchope’s Steve Slade and Con Constantine in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4 will also be in the hunt, and are renowned for their ability to string together fastest stage times anywhere in the state.

The field is a quick one and the top ten will be split by seconds at the end of the night.

The one make Hyundai Excel series once again joins the rally this year with six crews making the journey to Taree. This is a hotly contested series with crews nipping at each other’s heels for the title.

The Central North Coast Sporting Car Club would like to thank the following businesses and organisations, whom without the rally would not run – Midcoast Ford, Taree Leagues & Sports Club, Manning Communications, Total Automotive Services and State Forest of NSW.
