Organisers of this year’s event are determined to continue the tradition of the Rally of Canberra, which has always been one of the best organised and most hotly contested events in Australia.
Widely regarded as Australia’s rallying mecca, Canberra boasts everything a rally driver or fan could want – great stages, slick organization and some of the best spectator action of the year.
Entries for the 2007 event have been limited to 60 cars, with preference given to those crews registered for the ARC Super Series. As a round of the ARC and the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, it is expected that entries will fill fast for the event, which will run from June 1 to 3.
Privateer crews will pay just $850 to enter the Rally of Canberra, while crews who have not contested the rally for the past three years, and who have not been ARC registered in that period, will pay the bargain basement price of just $450.
“We want to ensure that the Rally of Canberra is well supported again this year – not only by the spectators, but to ensure that the rally has a long term future,” event Clerk of Course, Wayne Kenny, said today.
“Although we don’t have a major sponsor for the rally, we are forging ahead with plans and expect that this year’s rally will be one of the best Rally of Canberras on record.”
As a round of the Asia Pacific Championship, the event will see a number of international teams on the starter’s list, giving spectators the most competitive rally they’ll see in Australia this year. It will also enable Australian crews to gauge their speed against the international stars.
“With no Rally Australia in 2007, the Rally of Canberra is the highest profile event in the country this year,” Kenny added. “With the support of the competitors and the rally fans, the 2007 Rally of Canberra will be an event not to be missed.”
