Elfyn Evans (Ford Fiesta R5 Evo) regained his lead in the British Rally Championship when he won the Scottish Rally, round four of the series, leading all the way and winning all the stages except the last one.

Tom Cave, in a similar car, snatched second place on the final stage from Scotman David Bogie’s Skoda Fabia R5, recovering from earlier delays with a faulty turbo pressure valve.

Bogie then had engine overheating after final stage and did not reach the finish.

Championship leader after the third round, Fredrik Ahlin, retired his Fiesta R5 with propshaft failure when lying third behind Evans and Bogie.

The Renalt Twingo R2 of Norwegian Sindre Furuseth won the BRC Junior category ahead of the Vauxhall Adam R2 cars of Robert Duggan and Mattias Adielsson.

This was a one-day forest event based at Dumfries in south west Scotland, in typical summer conditions where midges brought general discomfort for spectators!

The next BRC event is the Nicky Grist Stages in Mid Wales in July, for which special financial arrangements had been made following the still-unsettled plans to raise forest charges in Wales.
