In all, 13.2 kilometres will be covered by cars over the day, with the potential of more if they are one of the fastest competitors.

The elimination format after the qualification process will begin with the fastest 32 cars, and at each interval, will halve until the final two competitors will chase the event victory.

Event Director and Assistance Clerk of Course, Sam Hill, explained the concept of the event.

“We’re trying to do things a little bit differently. Crews have six rounds to get a time on the board, and after those six, they’ll take their best time to qualify for the knockout rounds,” he said.

“The car club’s been really good in supporting us to activate this vision that I had. From my perspective, it adds a new level of excitement to a traditional rallysprint format. Potentially anyone could win on Sunday!”

Entries are already coming in for the event, with one from leading Australian driver, Taylor Gill, and the prospect of entries from as far south as Melbourne.

Those wishing to enter can do so online, with those competing in the preceding Coffs Coast 100 likely to ‘double up’ and do both events.

The Coffs Coast 100 is a new event, run under governing body AASA, and will use many of the best roads in the area.

“A few have double entered in the Coffs Coast 100 and then the Wedding Bells sprint on Sunday,” Hill added.

“It’s a real motorsport weekend and it bookends Coffs Harbour Festival of Motorsport nicely.

The famous Wedding Bells jump was last used for a Shakedown stage in 2022.

“I want to make sure that everyone that comes along has an amazing time and it runs seamlessly. This year is a proof of concept event and if we can have happy competition and great feedback, it means we can potentially reinvest into the event and make it bigger and better moving forward.”

Recent rain in the Coffs Harbour region means the roads are in fantastic condition ahead of the event’s running in a fortnight.

Entries close on Sunday, November 19, after the conclusion Rally of Canberra.
