Glen Raymond will drive a loaned Subaru Liberty RS Turbo at the next round of the NSW Rally Championship. Leading the championship coming into the rally, a heavy crash at the previous round in Batemans Bay meant Raymond had all but written off his hopes of contesting the next round, which was only three weeks later. “The crash at the Bay was a fairly big impact; it was my first big accident in a rally, so it shook us up quite a bit” Raymond said.

“The car took significant damage to the front right. Simply, it was just driver error. I just over-corrected. “I knew we would not be able to get the car fixed for the three week turn around, so that meant competing was unlikely” he said. However, ‘Raymo’ and co-driver Kate Catford were thrown a lifeline by Paul and Melinda Bergman, who offered the use of their Subaru Liberty RS Turbo. “We’re thrilled at the generosity of Paul and Melinda, who offered their car, even after seeing the photos of my crash! (Haha)” The car has sentimental value for Raymond, as he built and rallied the car with his brothers throughout the 2000s. “It will be nice to get back into the Subaru. I’m looking forward to driving it, as it’s such a fun car to drive. I’m hoping the transition back to it will be an easy one. “As I said, I’m very grateful for the opportunity that Paul and Melinda have presented us with. Without their help, my championship hope may have gone down the drain.” Raymond is already on the way to fixing his Evo, and hopes to have it ready for the final round of the championship. The next round of the NSW Rally Championship will be held out of Bonalbo on July 20.
