It appears that there have been no discussions about an event of the size of the WRC in Gympie with Cooloola Shire Council, and similar feedback has come from Noosa Shire.
While Noosa is supporting the new SunCoast Classic tarmac event, a WRC round seems way off the radar.
This position supports RallySport Magazine’s conclusion that the city of Gympie would not have the tourist infrastructure to sustain such a world-class event, and the influx of international teams and visitors it would attract.
Where does this leave the WRC round? With no confirmed information yet available, the pundits seem to be steering back to the natural attraction of the Sunshine Coast recognised tourist area - and the recent move by the Queensland ARC round to the Twin Waters 4-star resort at Mooloolaba cannot be ignored.
