The 100th anniversary Alpine Rally in 2021 will undergo major changes to the event format, with planning well underway.
The popular classic event will be increased to three and a half days in November next year, starting on Thursday afternoon and concluding on Sunday afternoon.
Competitive distance will be increased to around 650 kilometres, with an overall distance of just over 1200 kilometres.
At least one special stage is expected to be over 60km in length.
While again based in Lakes Entrance, the rally will visit Omeo, as did way back in 1921.
Organisers are hoping for a shire road stage within walking distance of the Omeo town centre, with the addition of some the best high country, mountain rally stages in Australia.
The 2021 Alpine Rally will also visit the forest areas around the communities of Bruthen, Nowa Nowa and Orbost that have become firm favourites with competitors.
