Concerns about a viable continued competitive future for Citroen Racing have escalated with the publication of a story in yesterday’s Ulster newspaper Belfast Telegraph. The article was written by their highly respected motorsport correspondent, Sammy Hamill, who has been working as motorsport correspondent for this outlet for nearly 50 years.
Hamill was commenting on the recent sudden departure of Citroen Racing’s Team Principal Yves Matton.

Yves Matton has left Citroen to take up a role with the FIA.

He speculated that: “Perhaps Matton saw the writing on the wall and opted to take up the role of FIA Rally Director”, in view of the uncertainty of plans to combine the motorsport activities of the associated Peugeot and Citroen competition departments.
The feature was entitled “Citroen’s WRC future in doubt as Meeke mentor takes up FIA role”. Hamill’s long time friendship with the family of fellow Ulsterman, Kris Meeke, means that he has been closely conscious of the troubles in 38-year old Meeke’s career in recent years.
