Alister McRae will debut the Toyota Super 2000R rally car at Wales Rally GB this weekend after a successful two-day test of the new car.

The car has already proved successful in the South African Rally Championship, and McRae was recently announced as development driver by RED, the UK rally team which has become the worldwide agent for the car.  McRae and RED have a long history together, with RED running the team for which Alister contested the 2004 PWRC.

Whilst Wales Rally GB, the final round of this year's world championship, is not a qualifying event for the PWRC, the category under which the car will run next year, it always boasts a strong Group N field, and being McRae's home event, it is a logical choice for some very important 'match' practice.

McRae is obviously looking forward to his return to the World Rally Championship after a two year absence.

"I am really looking forward to this rally and competing on home soil again," he said. "The main objective for the weekend is to get as many miles as possible on the car and get some good feedback. The car certainly  feels as quick, if not quicker, than Group N, but until we get on the stages, we won't know for sure."
