Ross Runnalls has done his duty getting a Victorian round of the ARC back off the ground with the successful running of the Eureka Rally out of Ballarat in March, which also served as the first round of the 2017 Focus on Furniture and Bedding Victorian Rally Championship.

The stages in the Mitta Mountain Rally will again be a driver's delight. Now he turns his mind to an event that he is really passionate about.

The North Eastern Car Club and Albury Wodonga and District Car Club Mitta Mountain Rally, round 2 of the VRC and incorporating the Mitta Masters for classic cars and competitors, returns for a second year, retaining all those aspects that made it great first up last year.

These include the amazing service park on the golf course, brand new Rally Base with excellent local catering, long no-repeat mountain stages, results final on the day, wrapped up with presentation that night in the fantastic Mitta Pub.  The bus from Dartmouth will operate again as well.

The choice of roads is so great that all five stages are new, with 13km of one stage used before and one stage being a reverse of a previous one. Other than the shire road stage, many of the roads are old logging roads rarely used these days.

Working bees have been out flicking stones and sticks off the corner apexes and exits, but the leaves and bark remain.  Drivers last year found the relentlessly twisting and climbing roads challenging for concentration and precise car placement, while co-drivers enjoyed the mountain scenery.

While the more traditional longer stages should appeal to the Mitta Masters crews, 50km plus stages are making a comeback at WRC level, with Australia’s own long Nambucca stage at Coffs Harbour taking on WRC icon status.

The final 54km Bogong stage at Mitta is bound to be memorable, and maybe iconic with time, as it climbs to the foot of Victoria’s highest mountain in a long testing loop from Mitta.

More stage description information to follow as the event gets closer.
