With the growing popularity of classic rallying in Australia, the CAMS NSW Rally Panel, with the support of the CAMS Queensland and Victorian Rally Panels, has today announced a new competition for Classic Rally cars in 2018.
Based on the East Coast of Australia, the “East Coast Classic Rally Series” is planned to be run over a number of events in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
“Our aim is to have more than five events nominated to be part of the series,” said NSW Rally Panel Chairman John Sparkes.
“These events will be existing rallies that will be invited to be a round of the series.”
Rules will be simple and, based on a recent survey of many classic rally car owners and competitors, will allow the huge majority of existing cars to compete.
Regular teams such as Clay Badenoch, Tom Dermody, Bruce Garland, Neil Schey, Ed Mulligan, Ryan Smart, Neal Bates and Luke Sytema, to name a few, have all praised the format and committed to support it.
“We want to make it as easy and as simple as possible for teams to compete,” said Clay Badenoch, “allowing a class structure that suits 97% of all cars currently competing across the country.”
A major series partner has already been secured and event dates will be released shortly.
