The registered WRC tyre supplier DMack has announced they will make new “joker” tyres available for Turkey.
The special characteristics of the new tyres are a more open tread pattern, and in the case of the soft tyre option, using the special very soft compound tyres used last year on their 2017 “joker” tyres.
The tyres are intended for use not in Turkey but on Wales Rally GB three weeks later.
Rules dictate that “joker” tyres must be announced at this time and then must be used till the end of the year.
At this time last year DMack performed the same manoeuvre, leading to the company’s spectacular victory of Elfyn Evans on 2017 Wales Rally GB.
These tyres will not provide any performance advantage on the dry, hot, rocky roads in Turkey - far from it, but wait for Britain in early October when conditions might be very different.
