Australian rally driver Rhys Pinter will be contesting the third round of the DMACK Junior British Rally Championship at this weekend’s Pirelli International Carlisle Rally with Forester Rallying Two/4 Motorsport.
The rally, based around the Kielder forest, will potentially be Pinter’s final hit out in the British championship after failing to secure the necessary funds required.
“At the moment, as it stands, this will be it unfortunately as some prospective sponsors have fallen through. It’s also been hard to find the support from the UK when I still fly in and out of Australia. But I’m hoping to find something and do a bit of a ‘John Farnham’ and return for another crack,” Pinter laughed.
Pinter, however, will be determined to give a great showing to make up for a disappointing round 1.
“I can’t wait to get back in the car and give it a crack and have some fun. The first round was terrible for a variety of reasons, so to be given another chance, I’m really looking forward to it.
“I even went to Coffs Harbour and spent a bit of time with Nathan Quinn and he helped me out in a variety of areas,” Pinter said.
In a last minute change, Phil Hall will be co-driving for the twenty-three year old Australian at the event. Hall co-drove for Pinter at last year’s Rally Australia and guided him to 20th outright and a class win.
“Unfortunately my co-driver Mark injured himself, making him unavailable but fortunately for me Phil was available and keen!
“It’s great to know we worked really well in Australia. He knows my notes and he has contested this event previously which is a bonus so I should be on the pace from the get go.”
As this could be Pinter’s last event, he will be running ‘the joker’ for the event which means, double points will be on offer.
“If it is my last event, I thought why not but I won’t be thinking about events ahead as I just want to give myself and the team the best result possible.”
The event starts at 8am on Saturday, April 30 and runs until Sunday May 1.
