Two-times Australian Rally Champion, Geoff Portman, will contest the Rally of Melbourne for the first time this weekend, driving a 6-cylinder Commodore.

Portman came to grips with the car yesterday during a corporate day for sponsors, held at the De Bortoli Winery near Yarra Glen, where the rally will be based.

Portman has been out of the sport for some years, but returned in November last year to win the Alpine Rally in a V8 Commodore, then drove a Datsun Stanza to fourth place in the Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint two weeks ago.

The former Nissan/Datsun factory driver lives near Healesville, and should come to grips with the roads to be used in this weekend's event very quickly.

Photographer Brendan Brown from www.ozrally.com.au was on hand to capture the action when Portman took to the test stage.
