The Australian Rally Commission (ARCom) has nominated South Australian Ben Rainsford to take Michael Thompson’s place on the board of Rallycorp, the commercial rights holder to the Australian Rally Championship.

Rainsford, the current Deputy Chairman of ARCom, joins the Rallycorp board with a strong background in rallying at all levels of the sport. He has competed in international, national, state and club level rallying on both gravel and tarmac surfaces, and has also attempted long distance events such as the London to Sydney marathon.

Outside of the car, Rainsford has been a member of ARCom for six years, was the previous promoter of the Classic Adelaide Rally, and is currently sitting as the Chairman of the Tarmac Rally Working Group. Away from rallying, Rainsford operates a national materials handling business, which has grown over the last 10 years to become the largest independently owned forklift business in Australia.

“Having directed a national business for the last 10 years, I believe I can bring important commercial experience to the board,” Rainsford said. “I am more than happy to step into the position and I hope I can be a stabilising influence for the board, and most importantly help to achieve the main goal – a good outcome for all stakeholders in the Championship,” he added.
