Rally New Zealand will continue to push for a place in the World Rally Championship calendar, despite missing out on a round of the series in 2018. Heavy lobbying by the event over the past couple of years came to nothing recently when NZ was overlooked in favour of Turkey. The rally has arguably the best rally roads in the world, and many of the current drivers voiced their desire to head back to New Zealand, which last held a round of the WRC in 2012. “We will continue to push for our rightful place on the WRC calendar,” Rally New Zealand chairman, PJ Johnston, told RallySport Magazine. “Rally New Zealand have a proud history of running successful WRC events. The WRC drivers have always voted NZ roads as the best in the world and want to come back. “We have a solid structure and a motivated team behind rallying in New Zealand, and have some 60 cars registered in our national championship.” Rally New Zealand will run as the final round of the NZ Rally Championship from November 24 to 26, based out of Tauranga in the North Island.
