In August this year, a meeting of various Australian Rally Championship (ARC) stakeholders was held at the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) Melbourne office, at which the future potential of Rallycorp (ARC commercial rights holder) was discussed.

The purpose of this meeting was to gauge interest in a proposal by the Board to sell shares in Rallycorp to ARC Competitors and Organisers. This would have raised capital to allow Rallycorp to operate as intended by the Board.

Consensus at the meeting decided that before this could happen, a detailed business plan should be developed and a better understanding of the commercial potential of Rallycorp be discussed. During the meeting, open discussion was held and one of the common threads highlighted how Rallycorp is perceived in the ARC community and how its role is misunderstood by many.

The outcome of the meeting saw a small group of volunteers empowered to convene and create a business plan for Rallycorp and consider ways of rectifying some of the issues discussed at the meeting and report back to the Board and the rest of the meeting attendees. The group, consisting of Spencer Lowndes, Scott Pedder, Simon Knowles, Ivar Stanelis and Ben Rainsford has now met twice and will soon be ready to report back to the stakeholders.

Two of the immediate items identified were:

  • There needs to be a better mechanisism for communication between Rallycorp and the ARC community. A number of concepts were discussed with a model facilitating email input via the restructure@rally.com.au address being preferred. Every email sent to this address will be actively considered by the Rallycorp Board.
  • The ARC community is a diverse group of people with a variety of skills which could be of use to the Championship. Rallycorp therefore seeks volunteers who can assist in the commercial running of the ARC.

With the valued input from competitors, organisers, ARCom and the Board of CAMS, Rallycorp is confident that these small steps will build a stronger, more viable and marketable ARC.
