Round Australia still possible

Despite the fact that no-one has come forward offering to direct a future Round Australia Trial at this stage, a number of qualified and experienced people have thrown their hats into the ring, indicating their willingness to help.

Bob Watson, the director of the 1995 Round Australia, has indicated to RallySport Magazine that if an event were to happen, he would be interested in being involved. Similarly, the Peugeot Car Club of Victoria’s Graham Wallis has also expressed interest, as has Port Macquarie’s Dan White.

White told RallySport Magazine that the obvious time to run a Round Australia would be in 2009 which would mark the 30th Anniversary of the Repco Round Australia Trial.  

“The 1979 Repco (Trial) was one of the most popular of the modern long-distance events and although it would present a huge amount of work, I’m sure it would be well supported by competitors,” he said.
