The World Rally Championship will feature a revised calendar in the latter half of 2020, according to the WRC Promoter. Like every other sport, the WRC is in limbo after only conducting three rounds - Monte Carlo, Sweden and Mexico. Oliver Ciesla, WRC Promoter managing director, told RallySport Magazine this week that any such calendar would require many things to fall into place. “All parties will work to identify potential alternative dates for the postponed rallies later in the season should the COVID-19 situation improve," Ciesla said. "This is taking into consideration championship logistics, the ability of competitors to travel again and the ability of the country in question to prepare and host the WRC at such a time.” While this is great news for rally fans, it would seem to benefit the European rallies more than those in countries such as Argentina and New Zealand. New Zealand, in particular, despite holding a place in the original calendar, may find itself squeezed out given its distance from mainland Europe. In time, the country's understandably tough border controls surrounding COVID-19 may also play its part. A log-jam of European rallies late in the year would seem likely for the WRC to enable them to hold enough events to constitute a championship.

Rally Sweden is one of only three WRC rounds held so far this year. Elfyn Evans won the event for Toyota.
