Current Group N two-wheel drive New Zealand Rally Champion Stephen Barker has been given the opportunity of a lifetime to compete in the Fiesta Sport Trophy international shootout.

Kerikeri based Barker has been given the opportunity to compete in the prestigious shootout thanks to his victory in the New Zealand Fiesta SportTrophy which ran along side the Group N 2WD class of the New Zealand Rally Championship.

In November, the 22-year-old will compete against winners from Fiesta SportTrophy series around the world as well as some ‘wildcard’ entries in a series of tests including media skills, fitness and mental abilities as well as their driving abilities. The top five after these tests will then have a one-on-one interview with Malcolm Wilson and the winner will receive an 12-month employment contract with his company M-Sport that is Ford’s global rallying partner.

Although the prize winner, Barker still needs to raise funds to contest the biggest opportunity of his career to date. With this in mind, the Stephen Barker Motorsport team have organised a fundraiser to allow Barker to confirm his participation.

“This is the biggest opportunity of my career to date and I am determined to give it everything I have got,” says Barker. “Unfortunately this will still be an expensive exercise so any help will be hugely appreciated.”

The fundraiser, which will include a celebrity guest speaker and charity auction, will take place at Bay Sport in Waipapa near Kerikeri starting at 6pm on Saturday, 30 October and tickets are available for $30.

To date, the fundraiser has gained support from Carters, Baker Boy’s nursery, Rintoul Civil, GJ Gardner Homes, Pacific Motor Group, Repco, Barrells 100% Electrical, Halvo Signs, Antix Copy Centre, Paneltech, DD Gold Embroidery, Noel Leemings and Marlin Hotel, but more support is needed.

For tickets or if you are able to donate to the auction, please contact Ron on 027 452 1617, or Stephen on 0276 343 154. If you are unable to attend but would like to help the team, donations, whether it be $5 or $500, would be greatly appreciated and every cent counts.
