The Riverina Traffic Services Mundarlo Road Rallysprint, run by the Wagga & District Car Club, will be held this weekend with 26 entries ready to face the starter.
The event returns to the region as rounds of the NSW Rallysprint Series, ACT Regional Rally Series and NSW Pacenote Rally Series, attracting some of the state’s best rally crews.
Organisers have been astounded by the response to the comeback event following a nine-year hiatus from the regional rally scene.
“The club took a rather big gamble with the decision to resurrect this event,” Assistant Clerk of Course Michael Meyer said, “but it’s been a decision that has been endorsed by the response of competitors and sponsors alike, with 26 entries and the inclusion of a major sponsor and numerous supporting partners for the event.”
Included in the line-up for the event are:-
- Russell Winks/Steve Hodgkin (V8 Commodore) – currently leading both the Gold Cup & Silver Cup divisions in the ACT Rally Series
- Andrew Maurer/Ken Maurer (Evo III Lancer) – top placed in both Outright and C5 Class in the NSW Rallysprint Series
- Jason Giddins/Justin Gunther (Subaru) – NSW Rallysprint crew, currently placed second Outright and C5 Class, just one (1) point adrift of Maurer/Maurer
Amongst the NSW and ACT competitors are also local drivers, including father and son teams Peter Price/Ryan Price (Ford Falcon) and Nathan Breese/Geoff Breese (Proton Satria), Wade Ryan (Datsun 180B SSS), Jon Parker/Tim Batten (Evo III Lancer) and Jody Mill/Brian Hunt (Evo II Lancer).
Competition gets underway just after 10am, with course cars leading the field away at 10.10am and Car 1 off the start at 10.18am.
Competition cars are split into two groups, with each group running a forward and reverse stage and completing the section three times throughout the day.
The event format allows for constant action for spectator viewing with a designated spectator area providing a vantage point to see the control start (forward) and flying finish (reverse), as well as the competition proper at the southern end of the competitive section.
