Subaru (Aust) Pty Ltd has been advised by Subaru Corporation (the Japanese manufacturer of Subaru vehicles) that certain model year Subaru vehicles equipped with a Takata front passenger airbag inflator may over time be susceptible to moisture intrusion.
Subaru (Aust) Pty Ltd has been advised by Subaru Corporation (the Japanese manufacturer of Subaru vehicles) that certain model year Subaru vehicles equipped with a Takata front passenger airbag inflator may over time be susceptible to moisture intrusion.
This could make the inflator assembly prone to rupture during an accident, increasing the risk of occupant injury. Therefore Subaru Australia has decided to carry out a recall.
The recall campaign covers a wide range of Subaru vehicles (listed below) that may be typically used for all types of motorsport use, and also include private, race or rally import vehicles.
While in most cases, the airbag components may be removed for competition vehicles, it is important that owners contact Subaru Australia to verify if their vehicle is affected by the recall campaign, and if so provide confirmation that the affected components have been removed or arrange to have the rectification works carried out by the nearest Subaru retailer.
For Australian delivered vehicles Subaru Australia has set up a VIN look up tool for owners to check if their vehicle is affected by the campaign, by entering the vehicles 17 digit VIN. The look up tool can be accessed at www.subaru.com.au/recall
If your Subaru is an import vehicle (private, race or rally), your vehicle will not appear on the VIN look up tool, therefore please contact the dedicated Subaru Recall Customer Relations Team on 1300 550 994 (free call) between 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday (AEST) and Saturday 8.30am to 5.00pm (AEST) with the vehicle details including model year and type, along with the original vehicle 9 digit chassis number.
The team will then verify with Subaru Corporation whether the vehicle is affected by the campaign and will reply with the recommended course of action.
