Targa Great Barrier Reef organisers have vowed to go ahead with next month's event, despite yesterday's announcement that residents from NSW and the ACT can not enter Queensland.
More than 80 Queensland entries have been received for the tarmac rally, ensuring that it is still viable for the event to proceed.
"TARGA Great Barrier Reef 2020 will still continue even if that means some people are now unable to attend due to the recent announcements from Queensland in relation to Victoria, Sydney and ACT," organisers said.
"We feel sincerely sorry for those who cannot attend the event at this point in time and hope that the situation changes to enable attendance.
"We encourage those of you to explore your exemption options online as a number of sports people have been given exemptions in recent weeks to compete in their chosen sport in Queensland."
Targa Great Barrier Reef is set to run on September 4-6.
Plans are still going ahead for November's Targa High Country in Victoria, although it's clear that the viability of this event will rely solely on state government restrictions that are currently in place because of COVID-19.
