This will be Inkster's third attempt at New Zealand's most famous Rallysprint. In 2008, Inkster took the runner up spot, despite the car remaining in full rally trim.
Last year, Inkster was in dominant form and was fastest in qualifying, then went under the "magic minute" barrier to be fastest in the top 32 and followed that up with two 58 second passes to lead the field into the top four. However a clutch that had been failing cried 'enough' and fourth was the best Inkster could manage.
This year, after a season driving a Group N Mistubishi Lancer Evo 9, Inkster will return to his tried and trusted TransNet Evo 6.5 for his attack on the 1.7 kilometre event.
"I can't wait to get down there," says Inkster. "It is a seriously cool road and the whole atmosphere surrounding the event is something pretty special. We just want to set some fast times, hopefully if the conditions allow we can get into the 57's."
Qualifying for the Ashley Forest Rallysprint will run on Saturday 25 September and the elimination runs will be the following day. The top 32 cars will be cut to 16, then to 8, 4 and the final of just two cars.
