Pre-event work for the 2016 Leech’s Mitsubishi Pyrenees Rush is certainly powering along - since entries for the event opened up, over 21 teams have entered, with a strong presence of Australian Rally Championship specification cars and teams awaiting to feel the rush!

Justin Dowel will be headlining the event, bringing his world specification S2000 VW Polo, a car that has heritage on the world championship stage.  Bendigo local Steven Mackenzie also returns to the Focus on Furniture & Bedding Victorian Rally Championship with his G2 Ford Fiesta ST, a car that looks and sounds the goods!

Ballarat resident, Darren Windus, currently leads the outright championship, though his competition at the front of the field will certainly increase the challenge with the ever-spectacular Will Orders in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6, and former Junior Australian Champion Glen Raymond his Subaru.

The front end of the field will have plenty of pop and crackle as the anti-lag kicks in, but for the admires of raw naturally aspirated engines, the event already has four high end Ford Escorts entered which will leave the forests with a classic buzz, whilst Maryborough Local Andrew Daniells will fly the Datsun flag in the ever popular Ford vs Datusn battles.

With a few weeks still remaining before entries close, there’s definitely going to be some hardcore awesome forest action on August 28.

There will be several great spectating opportunities to view the cars with the Avoca Riverside Markets again hosting the start of the event with competitors departing at two-minute intervals from 9am.  At the opposite end of the markets, the Pyrenees Historic Car Club will have several vehicles present and on display during the morning.

With action in the forest bound to create some challenges for competitors, the Amphitheater Recreation Reserve will play a key roll as the “Service Park”, where vehicles will be repaired, maintained, and refuelled throughout the day.

The event is schedule to run on Sunday, August 28, and  is proudly supported by Leech’s Mitsubishi, and its great supporting partners including Mount Avoca winery, Fulton Hogan, Mattronics, Maryborough District Advertiser, Pyrenees Shire Council, and Car Club RMIT.

The Leech’s Mitsubishi Pyrenees Rush is a round of the Focus on Furniture & Bedding Victorian Rally Championship, and forms the first round of the Victorian Noted Rally Series.
