Ryan and Rebecca Smart have arrived in the Barossa Valley and are keen to get out into the forest. Currently sitting in third position outright in the Australian Rally Championship, Ryan believes that this rally is going to come down to the crew that makes the right decision with their tyres.

Last week the decision was made to only allow crews to use 6 medium compound 800 Kuhmo tyres at this event.

“The medium compound 800 tyre is the tyre that we wanted to use all weekend, now that we only have six to use it is going to be critical when we choose to use them, it could make all the difference to us,” Ryan said today. “I guess I will just make the best decision I can at the time, and the rest of the time I will focus on driving to the finish.”

The first forest stage of the rally on Saturday is the new 34km Tweeden stage. “To have such a long stage straight out of the gates is going to be very interesting, we will need to make sure that we are on the game straight away. There will be no easing in to this rally,” Ryan said.

The Scouts Rally SA starts on Friday Evening 25th June at the Angaston Showgrounds with two super special stages.
