Respected Australian rallying figure, Steve Ashton, passed away on July 25 after a long battle with illness.

Among his rally cars were Datsun 1600s, Mitsubishi Galant VR4s and Lancers and, more recently, Mitsubishi Galants in classic rallies.
An architect by trade, just this year his business won the Australian Institute of Architects Gold Medal.
ARCom Chairman, Col Trinder, paid tribute to Ashton’s contribution to Australian rallying.
"Steve was one of the (largely unrecognised) giants of our sport who did a number of things that were groundbreaking for the sport here, and that few would know about or appreciate.
“This included a significant investment to underwrite some of the commercial side of things from his own pocket. He never asked for anything in return. He was a true gentleman,” Trinder, said.
RallySport Magazine sends its condolences to his wife, Ro, and his family.
