Vatanen leaves Dakar door open

1981 World Rally Champion, Ari Vatanen, says that a return to the Dakar Rally in 2007 is not out of the question. 

Speaking at the Rally Day in the UK on the weekend, Vatanen said he would have contested the event this year, had it not been for Nissan withdrawing in the lead up to the event.

"For 2007, well, we'll have to wait and see," Vatanen said. "I certainly haven't ruled it out and you know, something interesting might happen. I did the 1000 Lakes a few years ago and finished 11th. So I think, in the right conditions, I could win it (Dakar)."

Vatanen won a record three Dakars with Peugeot in 1987, 1989 and 1990 and took another win with Citroen in 1991. These days Vatanen is a Member of the European Parliament.
