Seventeen year old Norwegian, Andreas Mikkelsen, who won his first rally just two days after getting his UK driving licence, has finished second on the Swansea Bay Rally in the UK, winning five of the six stages.Â
The event used stages from Wales Rally GB, but Mikkelsen dropped 40 seconds on the first stage with dust hanging in the air.
"I was a bit down after losing 40 seconds on stage one. So I and co-driver Ola decided to drive at our own pace and get the experience and the finish. To come back to runner-up feels like a win for me - cutting the gap to just three seconds felt great," Mikkelsen said.
The event was won by Marcus Dodd in a Hyundai Accent WRC and third was Craig Middleton, in another Accent.
Andreas' Manager, Vegard Joa, explained the significance of the event:Â "The fact this event uses stages from Wales Rally GB made it even more important for Andreas, as we want to enter that event later in the year."
