Michael and Erin Valantine had a successful 2017 rally season, finishing first outright in the Techworkz Automotive New South Wales Development Rally Series (DRS).
The father and daughter MV Solar Team started out on a high, with a win at the first of the six-round series in their rear-wheel drive Datsun Stanza.
With a few brake issues at the second round in Narooma, a win was not looking good, but the team still achieved the win after some close calls on a few of the afternoon stages. Further issues at the Myall Lakes Rally, with an accelerator cable breaking, would see them placed fifth at Round 3, but another win at the Mini Dulla event would put them back in the lead of the championship. A DNF at round 5, the Clybucca Rally, dropped them down the leaderboard and it was down to the final round.
The fast and flowing Kosciuszko Automotive Monaro Stages Rally was a new event, and Valantine would need to outpace his rivals to win the series. That’s exactly what he did, winning the DRS two-wheel drive section of the rally after a consistent drive.
Only five of the six rounds counted in the series, so after dropping their worst result, the MV Solar Team finished on top, 10 points clear of Bob Moore in another Datsun Stanza. Six rallies and four wins saw Michael and Erin Valantine as the 2017 New South Wales Techworkz Automotive Development Rally Series Driver and Co-Driver Champions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMuxy0TEqAo&feature=youtu.be
