Voting is now underway for the 2007 CAMS Motor Sport Personality of the Year award, sponsored by Shannons. With eleven nomination for the award announced today, CAMS is calling on the Australian motor sport public to cast their votes and go into the draw to win a framed and signed Mark Webber print which has been kindly donated by the Australian Motor Sport Foundation.

The CAMS Motor Sport Personality of the Year award recognizes competitors who, through their actions both during and outside of competition, are good ambassadors for Australian motor sport. All nominees must be:

+ a current competitor in Australia in a category of four wheel motor sport;

+ a good role model for those interested in entering motor sport;

+ personable;

+ a fair competitor;

+ a 'personality' in the motor sport arena who promotes motor sport in a positive light.


Previous winners include Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Simon Evans, Grant Denyer and Marcus Zukanovic.

This year also marks the first time that two female competitors have been nominated for the award - Sue Evans (Rally) and Leanne Tander (Formula 3). They are joined by several former Australian Champions in Mark Skaife, Shannon Rentsch and Craig Baird.

The award will be announced and presented at the 2007 Australian Motor Sport Awards to be held in Melbourne on Friday 14 December 2007.

The nominees for 2007 are:

+ Mark Skaife (V8 Supercar Championship)

+ Sue Evans (Australian Rally Championship)

+ Leanne Tander (Australian Formula 3 Championship)

+ Shannon Rentsch (Australian Off Road Championship)

+ Jack Elsegood (Australian V8 Ute Racing Series)

+ Craig Baird (Australian Carrera Cup Championship)

+ James Moffat (Australian Formula Ford Championship)

+ David Wall (Australian GT Championship)

+ Steve Briffa (Australian Production Car Championship)

+ Mark King (Australian Performance Car Championship)
