The rebuild on Arron Windus’ VRC winning Subaru Impreza WRX is tracking along well despite a major overhaul.

Windus crashed the car at the final rally of the season, the Akademos Rally, and while he had already wrapped up the championship, it has put the brakes on his 2020 preparation.

The car has had to undergo a full rebuild courtesy of a run-in with a tree stump, but Windus is confident the car will be ready for a pre-season test as he looks to defend his title.

“The Subaru is coming along extremely quickly thanks to the guys at Activ Rallysport,” Windus said.

“We have a new engine being installed this week and we hope to have it up and running for the weekend.

“If all goes to plan, we will commence pre-season testing on Labour Day Monday (March 9),” he added.

The Windus crew will not only have Arron, but also Darren in Subarus for 2020, making it a two-pronged attack for the state championship.
