Young Gun Adam Casmiri is heading to next week’s Scouts Rally SA in his Honda Civic Type R, with the intention of securing a position in the Rallyschool.com.au Junior 2WD challenge Final later this year in Coffs Harbour.

The last time Adam competed in a round of the Australian Rally Championship was a one-off drive in a virtually standard Mitsubishi EVO 5 last year at Rally Victoria. This outing saw Adam finish fifth outright in heat 2, indicating his pace on a national playing field.

In 2012, Adam (right) and his co-driver, Sam Hill (left), competed in the Oberon pacenote rally held in April. Driving consistently all day in his father’s EVO 7, they regularly sett times in the top three, but were slowed by a number of flat tyres, which eventually led to a third outright final placing.

The decision to step up to the Australian Rally Championship was not taken lightly. Adam and Sam were both spectating at the International Rally Queensland in June. It was at that point in the forest that there was no other option but to do whatever possible to enter Scouts Rally SA and give it a “red hot go”!

Adam says: “The Rallyschool.com.au junior 2WD challenge is a great opportunity for guys like me to compete at a national level, in affordable cars. We had to have a go, and see what opportunities present themselves.”

Adam Casmiri tests his Honda Civic Type R this week.Adam’s Honda Civic Type R has some great pedigree. Originally built by Racetorque for selected rounds of both the Asia Pacific and World Rally Championships in the early 2000s, it then stayed in NSW, where Adam has competed in this car for the past few years at selected NSW state championship rounds, regularly finishing in the top 10 outright.

The Honda has recently gone through a mechanical overhaul in the hands of team manager, Carlos Casmiri, from Sportsclassic, with a fresh coat of paint and graphics to seal the deal.

Last weekend the team conducted a shakedown in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. Over the course of the morning, Adam and Sam completed over 30km of testing, playing with suspension settings and brake bias to explore the adjustability of the Honda. With the current wet weather in Adelaide, the team believes that flexibility is the key to securing a good result in the rally.
