Zonta Whitsundays and Shingley Beach Resort have formed partnerships with the all female RallyCars.com.au Racing Team for round one of the 2019 P3 Solutions Queensland Rally Championship, Rally Whitsundays. Attracting spectators locally and throughout central Queensland, the Whitsundays Festival of Motoring (May 3 - May 5) is Whitsundays' most significant motoring event, with the headline act of Rally Whitsundays on May 4. As well as supporting Bergmann and Biggar, Zonta Whitsundays will also provide the Whitsundays Festival of Motoring with a large number of volunteers, creating a collaboration trifecta for all parties. Zonta is a global organisation of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. The local Zonta Whitsundays club consists of over 40 local women from the central coast of Queensland, between Mackay and Townsville. Zonta Whitsundays representative and Director of Advocacy, Amanda Walter, said “supporting community events is an important aspect of Zonta's ethos, only overtaken by the objective to highlight important issues relating to empowering women through service and advocacy”. “Melinda and Larisa have demonstrated a worthiness of Zonta's support in honoring their dedication and commitment in recognising their success of third outright in the 2018 Queensland Rally Championship,” she said. “Furthermore, these female competitors are inspiring representatives of what Zonta values - capable women who aspire to be the best they can and provide role models for young women who will then see opportunities for success in a different field." “May, also marks Queensland Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month which Zonta campaigns to raise community awareness of domestic and family violence and to send a clear message that violence of this sort will not be tolerated," Mrs Walter added. "The Queensland rally has become a much bigger program for us that we are thrilled to be a part of. It provides a unique platform at which to highlight our values to a totally new audience and we can’t wait to cheer the team on as they cross the finish line." “We have been overwhelmed by Zonta Whitsundays’ support for our rally team and the motoring festival and the support of Shingley Beach Resort”, Bergmann said. “As a rallying community, we wholeheartedly support Zonta Whitsundays’ message that domestic violence is just not on”. Shingley Beach Resort in Airlie Beach are also supporting the team, by providing a centrally located base for the team during the festival. Close to the main street of Airlie Beach, but quiet enough for rally-restorative sleep, the team will be well prepared for the event. Despite distracting views of the Whitsunday Islands from Shingley Beach Resort, the team will be more focused putting on a good show for the Whitsunday community. Only a few hundred meters from Shingley Beach Resort, Rally Whitsundays will host a ceremonial start on Friday, May 3 at Abell Point Marina, Airlie Beach, where fans can get up close to the cars and meet the crews, including the Zonta Whitsundays supported Rallycarscom.au Racing Team. The rally commences on Saturday, May 4 in Airlie Beach, with Proserpine as the rally car service location. The event finishes in the township of Bowen for 2 passes through a street stage, roaring past the iconic Grand View Hotel. Visit www.motoringwhitsundays.com.au for more information about the event.
