After a frustrating gearbox problem in the last Queensland Rally Championship round at Yeppoon in July, Glen Brinkman turned his fortunes around with an outstanding win at the third Short-Course Rally event at Jimna over the weekend.
Glen co-erced Alan Stean into the left hand set to conduct back-to-back testing of the Silverstone tyres, and a faultless run enabled them to hold off the hard-charging Datsun 240K of Dave Ganies/Nikki Doyle.
Third place on the day went to Stephen Tonna/Lorelle Greenwood in their pretty Evolution 5 Lancer.
Two separate stages were each traversed three times, and the roads in the Jimna Forest (just one and half hours from Brisbane) were in excellent condition, receiving praise from all corners.
With all competition completed before dusk, the presentation was held on site at Rally HQ in the Jimna Forestry Station.
Class winners included PN1 Al Kelly/Erin Kelly (Renault Alpine A110), PN2 Gideon Street/Daniel Grisinger (Gemini), PN3 Chris Wedding/Michael Lasijcuk (Datsun 1600), PN5 Brinkman/Stean.
The outright winner of the Classic category was the 240K of Gaines/Doyle.
With a well-represented Gemini class, Street/Grisinger held off Adrian/Tim Dillon with Ed Williams/Emma Frost in third place.
Trophies were presented by Keith Fackrell of KCF Rallysport, long-time sponsors of these events and previous series’. Keith indicated his great satisfaction with the events and committed to a continuing his support in 2007.
