By combining 1.3km of compressed granite racing circuit, 3km of tarmac roads and 0.7km of fine gravel road, the organisers are able to offer both classic and modern tarmac and gravel rally competitors a fast, smooth, flowing course.
Run during the day and under lights at night, spectators will have the rare opportunity to see almost half the course and marvel at these special cars and drivers in action on varying surfaces. Spectators will also be able to mingle with the drivers and their cars as the service park is right next to the start/finish line, which is directly in front of the main spectator area.
A maximum of only 60 vehicles will compete seven times over the fully fenced five kilometre stage.
The event is sanctioned by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport and will be conducted as a Multi-Club Special Stage Tarmac Rally because of the distance travelled on tarmac. Crews will require a National Rally Licence and the appropriate driving apparel will be required. Vehicles will require tarmac rally or road tyres, as gravel rally tyres will not be allowed.
As ‘Speed on Tweed’ is only two weeks earlier, interstate competitors may wish to combine both events on their competition calendar.
The Gold Coast Tweed Motorsporting Club Inc., as the promoters of the event, acknowledge the assistance of the Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club and the Brisbane Sporting Car Club, without whom the event would not proceed.
