South Australians Guy Tyler and Steve Fisher have completed their first British Rally Championship event for 2016 at the RSAC Scottish Rally last weekend.

In their third outing in the UK this year, they faced tough opposition from a very competitive DMACK Junior BRC field. The pair finished a very strong fifth in the junior category and were the quickest 1600 Fiesta throughout the day.

“I’m over the moon to not only finish an event this year, but also proving that we can mix it with the best in the DMACK Junior BRC is an amazing feeling,” said Tyler, who finished only 4.7 seconds off of fourth place, after a day where everything didn’t go quite to plan.

“In SS1 we caught a car midway through and were stuck behind them for a few miles. Then on the second to last corner of the stage, I slid into a ditch on a tight right hander, but fortunately it was very soft and I kept it flat and the car pulled out!”

The other big issue was in SS5 when about three miles from the finish the Fiesta’s gear linkage broke. Fortunately it was in third gear at the time, which allowed them to continue on. Tyler then managed to get the car back to service where his Major Motorsport team quickly fixed the problem.

“Besides that the car was flawless all day. We had improved the setup of the Fiesta since the last event which increased the grip and driveability remarkably, and gave me the confidence to push very hard.

“I also loved the tight and fast Scottish roads which were in great condition, and the rally was a huge credit to all the organisers and officials.”

To top it all off, Tyler and Fisher were awarded the Sort Oils Spirit of the Rally Award. This award recognised their commitment, hard work, and determination to not only come from Australia to compete in the BRC, but also for overcoming a rough start to the year.

“This award means so much to us, especially after what we’ve been through to get here,” Tyler said. “We can’t wait to do our country proud at the next event, especially as we are now the only Australians left competing in the BRC.”

The Scottish rally was also the event the pair chose to play their ‘Joker card’, which when played doubles the points scored on that rally. The South Australians now go into the next round with 12 points and are 11th in the Championship.

The next event couldn’t be any closer for the crew, who will be competing in the Nicky Grist Stages, the fifth round of the BRC in just under two weeks time!
