Following another very successful year in 2008 CAMS is now calling for nominations for the 2009 Rally, Off Road and Women’s Driver Development Programs.

The self-nomination approach has again been chosen to encourage Australia's young driving talent to be proactive in the pursuit of their motor sport careers.

Each driver wishing to nominate for the 2009 programs must meet specific assessment criteria including age, past driver performance and demonstrated interest in pursuing an international career.

The 2009 Rally Driver Development will see the return of co-drivers being considered for the program, a move that has been praised by Australian Rally Commission Chairman Colin Trinder -a co-driver himself.

“It’s great to see that co-drivers are able to attend this program and are being given the opportunity to progress their development before moving on to international competition,” he said.

“Australia has now produced a number of top-level co-drivers including Glen Macneall who has been competing in the World Rally Championship.

“I look forward to monitoring the progress of those who are selected.”

The successful 2009 squad members will be announced at the end of November, followed by at least two training camps at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). Although the curriculum will be further updated for 2009, the camps will remain focused on elements of nutrition, physiology, psychology, strength and conditioning, and media training.

The nomination deadline is Monday 17 November 2008. For further information on the selection criteria and to download the 2009 nomination forms, please visit www.cams.com.au/go/sportsdev. CAMS would like to thank the Australian Sports Commission for its support of both programs in 2008 and for the three programs for 2009.
