A record field of 85 crews have entered this weekend’s “Shannons Alpine Classic Rally” which gets underway from Lithgow on Saturday, October 14.

This is by far the biggest field ever received for the traditional NSW event, and highlights the increasing interest in classic rallying in the state. Under the direction of John Henderson, the event is a round of the Classic Rally Club’s 2006 rally series which provides competitors three levels of difficulty in the navigation-based event.

A huge range of classic cars, ranging from humble Minis to a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and a Daimler will be flagged off from the start at the Lithgow Public School on Saturday morning.

Although predominantly for pre-1977 classic cars, there will also be a handful of later model vehicles entered, including several Jaguars, a Renault Clio Sport  and a pair of Subaru WRX’s.

Multiple previous winning navigator, Jeff West, will team with former Australian Rally Championship competitor, Rob Worboys, in a 1964 Mk.1 Cortina who are tipped to lead home a classy field of crews in the ‘Masters’ section, while the ‘Apprentice’ and ‘Touring’ crews will have their own individual battles for a podium finish.
